Reflection:
I chose the documentary film "Vanishing of the Bees" because my research topic is "bees and social behaviors".
The documentary film "Vanishing of the Bees" mainly talks about the issue "Colony Collapse Disorder"(CCD). This video is trying to exploring the reason why CCD happens. This video tries to persuade people to protect honey bees since they are vanishing and it influences our food products in some way. I think the video did a good job persuade me that the vanishing of bees is really a serious problem. The people in the documentary defines CCD as "When a colony is completely died, you will find no bees in the colony or in the apiary". I think this documentary makes the problem of CCD very convincing to me. By watching the documentary, I can know how bad the problem is when I saw empty hives that all bees are gone. It was said in the documentary that the number of bees in the United States was not enough that the United States has to import bees from other countries to help pollination, since pollination is necessary for some plants to grow food. The documentary also mentioned the use of pesticides, and human's use of artificial syrup to raise bees makes bees to die. I can mention these problems in my own research, since they will help with my advocacy project. I already know that systematic pesticides can cause bees to die, but I don't know that raising bees with artificial syrup can cause bees to die as well. I am glad that I learned this from this documentary.
