We read the“Howls of Wolves”and “Whines and Pet Peeves” this week. For the “Howls of Wolves”,the fact that wolves can deliver their emotion through their sound stuck in my mind. It is amazing that wolves have the ability to express their emotions through the sound they make. Also, emotion is one of the topics that we can choose for our own research. Thus, I can refer back to this article if I write animal emotions. For the “Whines and Pet Peeves”, the term “theory of mind” Stuck with me after I did annotation. “Theory of mind relates to self-awareness and consciousness, which helps me to decide my research topic as well.
For my own research, I am considering doing bees and communication, or whale intelligence, but I am not exactly sure yet. I chose these two topics for now because of the tweets I read about them. The bees have a complicated family, and I am curious on how they communicate with other. For whales, I think they are very smart based on my experience to aquarium, but I need research to confirm it. My ideas become more specific since last week.
I got most information about bees from NHM Bees, the organization I followed on Twitter. I also followed Insect Migration which is another organization that I can find some information about bees. I retweets some of their tweets for my future research. I found a term “Melittology” which concerning the scientific study of bees. However, I didn’t find many specific researchers that are doing research on bees, but researcher Thomas Seeley. I will try to find more in the future. I found that twitter is a really good place to find resources, but Google scholar is good as well.
Hi Mengchen! I also found it amazing that wolves can use sound to convey emotions and signals. I like that you are researching about bees and how the communicate. I think you will find alot of accredited research on the Google Scholar.
Hi Mengchen!
I never thought about doing a project on any kind of insect since humans don't generally associate any sort of arthropod with intelligence. Bees and other colony insects are definitely important part of communication that most likely goes over many people's heads. Looking forward to hearing further about what you decide.
Hi, Mengchen! I like your blog talking about bees. I'm also not sure about what I should include in my research. Best.
Hi Mengchen! I also believe whales are very intellgent and their performance are incredible! I guess you can ask whale trainers about your research questions if you have chance.
Hey Mengchen! I haven’t decided my topic yet, either, and I am still struggle between intelligence and communication. By the way, thanks for your recommendation of twitter account, that’s informative.
